NORFOLK, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association announced Tuesday that ODU redshirt sophomore John Nicholson was named the co-Wrestler of the Week along with Boston University’s Fred Santaite. It is the second straight week that Nicholson has earned the CAA Wrestler of the Week honor and the third consecutive week that an ODU wrestler has captured the award.

Nicholson (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt), currently ranked No. 23 by and No. 25 by, won both of his matches last week. The 157-pounder picked up an 18-5 major decision over Campbell’s Nick Rex on Saturday and downed Virginia Tech’s Cameron Hurd, 9-4 on Sunday.

Currently riding an 11-match win streak, Nicholson has won 12 times in 13 bouts in 2012 while improving his overall record to 21-5 and 4-1 in the CAA. He is 16-3 in dual action and 15 of his 21 wins this season have come via tech fall or major decision. His CAA-leading 11 major decisions are second most nationally in Division I this season.

Nicholson has earned the award in back-to-back weeks while sophomore Tristan Warner (165) took the award and redshirt freshman Jerome Robinson (125) captured CAA Rookie of the Week honors on Jan. 17. Back in November, senior Te Edwards (174) was named the CAA Wrestler of the Month while freshman Pete Baldwin (149) was tabbed as the CAA Rookie of the Month.

The Monarchs return to action at home on Sunday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. when they host No. 22 Central Michigan at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
