NORFOLK, VA-Old Dominion University athletic director Jim Jarrett announced today that men's soccer coach Alan Dawson has been awarded a three- year contract. Dawson, who's Monarchs advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament on a 15-4-1 record, was named the CAA Coach of the Year for the third time in the last five years. He was also the NSCAA/Adidas South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year which made him a finalist for National Coach of the Year honors.

"My family and I are delighted to continue to make the Hampton Roads community our home," said Dawson. "We are particularly excited about the direction of the University and the commitment to the future of the soccer program made by Dr. Jarrett."

This past season the Monarchs finished 15-4-1 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. ODU won its first 14 games and was the last NCAA Division I team to give up a goal through its first nine matches. Old Dominion ranked as high as second nationally on Oct. 7 and remained there for three consecutive weeks.

"Old Dominion University is pleased Alan Dawson will continue to lead our men's soccer program and we look forward to exciting accomplishments in the years ahead," said Jim Jarrett.

Dawson has compiled a 202-77-1 career record and is 83-47-9 at ODU through seven seasons. Dawson was CAA Coach of the Year in 1999, 2001 and 2003.
