NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion field hockey team rose to No. 10 in both the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll and the Women's Field Hockey.Com Poll after a 2-0 week which included shutout victories over conference rivals Hofstra and Drexel.

The Lady Monarchs are currently 8-5 overall and are in the midst of a seven game-win streak that has included five consecutive shutouts.

North Carolina, who the Lady Monarchs will face again on Saturday, October 27th in the home regular season finale, continues to top the STX/NFHCA Poll followed by Maryland, who the Lady Monarchs will face on Friday.

Michigan moved up a spot to No. 5 in the poll, while other former ODU opponents in the top ten include Connecticut at No. 6 and Penn State at No. 9.

Despite collecting two wins with 2-1 victories against Virginia Commonwealth and California, James Madison slid back a notch to No. 8 in the poll. The Dukes and Lady Monarchs will meet in a rematch of the 2006 CAA Championship game next weekend in Harrisonburg.

Old Dominion and James Madison are the only two CAA teams in the STX/NFHCA Poll's top 20 this week, while Delaware and Drexel are both receiving votes. Delaware fell out of the top 20 this week after a loss to Northeastern. Drexel meanwhile managed to defeat William & Mary but fell to Old Dominion, 2-0.

In The Women's Field Hockey.Com Poll, the Tar Heels continue to take the top spot followed by Maryland. Moving up one place, Michigan comes in at No. 4, and Conneticut made a drop from No. 3 to No. 6.

James Madison continues to be featured in the poll's top 20. The Dukes moved up a space in this week's poll to No. 9.

Old Dominion is gearing up for a pair of non-conference contests this weekend in which both are rematches against ACC squads. The Lady Monarchs will travel to No. 2 Maryland on Friday, October 12th and return home to host No. 11/13 Duke on Sunday, October 14th. Old Dominion will be taking on the Terps and Blue Devils for the second time this season. Maryland, the two-time defending national champions, handed ODU a 4-1 loss back on August 31st, while ODU's current win streak began with a 1-0 victory in Durham back on September 16th.
