NORFOLK, Va. -- The Lady Monarchs (2-1) scored four second half goals to put away the Radford University Highlanders (1-3) on Sunday. Senior captain Lisa McKenzie scored twice and junior Shavon Knight knocked home her team-leading third goal. Junior Janna Pearson and freshman Ashley Kukura each had a goal and an assist. As a team the Lady Monarchs shot 15 of 20 on-goal and only allowed four shots during the match.

Radford opened the game out in front, as Jackie Cozza scored a goal in the 14th minute off an assist by Brianna Kipper. The Lady Monarchs would tie the game just before the end of the half when McKenzie made contact with the twine for the first of her two goals. Freshman Kelsey Williams sailed a cross to Lizzy Brewster in the center of the box who's deflection found the feet of McKenzie and she put it home. It was Williams' first career assist.

The Lady Monarchs responded immediate out of the locker room as Pearson put away her goal, the game-winner, on a corner kick. The ball found the upper back pocket untouched from the corner in the 48th minute of play.

McKenzie's second goal would follow in the 66th minute on a free kick from about 35 yards out to put ODU up 3-1. Knight would score her goal on a cross from sophomore Chika Umejei. Umejei received the ball from freshman Ashley Kukura for her second career assist.

The Lady Monarchs would tally the final goal in the 80th minute as Ashley Kukura found the back of the net off a rebound from Pearson's fourth shot-on-goal of the day. Radford keeper Emily Heath made the save, but it deflected right to the feet of Kukura for the fifth goal of the match.

ODU's defense played exceptionally well for the second straight game. Saratu Dodo, Marilee Mastaler, Dani Hammer and Lizzy Brewster assisted ODU's goalkeeper Lauren Tupman by allowing just two shots per half for the Highlanders. The tight defense only gets better in the second half, as they've allowed just eight shots all season in the second frame.

ODU outshot Radford 20-4 in the game. The Lady Monarchs improve to 2-1-0 on the season while dropping the Highlanders to 1-3-0.

ODU heads back on the road for three straight, starting with N.C. State on Thursday, September 13 with kick-off set for 4:00 pm.
