Box Score

Norfolk, VA-Towson University defeated Old Dominion in men's basketball this evening, 67-55. The Tigers improve to 7-15 overall and 3-9 in the CAA while the Monarchs drop their third in a row and fall to 10-12, 4-8 CAA.

Old Dominion, playing their third game in six days, simply couldn't get on track against a Towson squad determined to play strong inside. The Monarchs had defeated Towson earlier this season with a dominating rebounding performance but had the tables turned on them early on in this contest. The Tigers jumped out to a 30-20 halftime lead and led by as many as 19 in the second half. Old Dominion cut the lead to nine points at one point, but couldn't pull any closer as Towson continued to pound away inside.

Evidence of the Tigers' inside work showed in many places. Towson attempted just one three-point field goal throughout the entire game and enjoyed a 34-29 edge in rebounding. In addition, the Tigers went to the free-throw line 27 times, connecting on 21 of their shots. ODU, on the other hand, had just 13 free throws all evening.

Towson had three players score in double-digits, led by Brian Allen's 14 points and 10 assists. Sam Sutton scored 13 with six rebounds and four assists while center Mike Shin contributed 10 points.

Old Dominion was led by forward Rasheed Wright (Greensboro, NC) who scored a game-high 17. Guard John Waller (Richmond, VA) scored 16 and sophomore Troy Nance (Va. Beach, VA) dished out 5 assists.

Towson shot .523 from the field compared to ODU's .368. Both sides had problems hanging onto the ball, with Towson committing 16 turnovers and the Monarchs handing over 12.

Old Dominion will be off until Saturday, February 9, when they travel to VCU.
