Monarchs Open CAA Tournament Tuesday at Home
Nov. 11, 2002
The third seeded Old Dominion men's soccer team will begin the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament on Tuesday night when they host the sixth seed, Drexel, at 7:00 p.m.
The Monarchs (9-7-1/6-2-1) closed out the regular season with a 2-0 loss at William and Mary on Saturday night. The defeat pushed them to the third seed while the Tribe earned the second seed and a first-round bye. VCU dropped Towson and Delaware over the weekend to gain the #1 seed and the other first-round bye.
Drexel comes in at #6 after playing George Mason and James Madison to ties this weekend. The Dragons lost 3-2 in Norfolk last month as ODU's Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch, CO) scored the second goal of his career in double overtime to win it for the Monarchs. Drexel finished their first year in the CAA with a 3-3-3 conference mark and 9-7-3 overall.
The other first round match will pit fourth-seeded Towson hosting fifth-seeded James Madison. Towson dropped two games over the weekend but still hung on to that fourth spot. JMU shutout Towson 2-0 in their meeting this year.
The winner of this game will travel to the Virginia Beach Sportsplex on Friday to face VCU at 5:00 p.m. The ODU/Drexel winner will meet William and Mary at 7:30 p.m. The Championship game is set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Sportsplex
