Monarchs Fall Short At East Carolina, 59-57

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) (Dec. 1) - Brandon Hawkins hit two free throws with 10.3 seconds left to give East Carolina a 59-57 victory over Old Dominion.

Neil Punt scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Pirates (2-2, 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association), who committed 17 turnovers and shot only 37 percent from the field.

Evaldas Jocys added 14 points and 12 rebounds for ECU, whose shooting performance was only slightly better than the 33 percent shooting by ODU (2-4,0-1).

Larry Morrisey scored 12 points for the Pirates.

Michael Williams led Old Dominion with 13 points, including a free throw with 12.3 seconds that tied the score at 57-57. But Hawkins then went to the foul line after being fouled by Andre McCullum, and Kenyatta Brown blocked a 3-point attempt by Williams to seal the victory.

Skipper Youngblood scored 12 points for Old Dominion.
