ODU Advances To Championship Round After Semi-Final Round Unable To Be Completed
May 26, 2010
MADISON, Wisc. - Day two of the 2010 ICSA Women's National Championship ended with the same net result as day one - no racing due to lack of wind.
The sailors were on the water early this morning as the first warning signal of the day was set for 9 a.m., however, they were soon sent ashore to wait for breeze.
If the wind had cooperated just enough to allow the minimum of three races to be completed by both A- and B-Divisions before the time limit expired, that would have been enough to constitute a semi-final round for the 18 entered schools who were vying to finish top-nine in order to progress to the championship round.
With no racing completed, the original qualification formula now comes into play: performance at their conference championship will determine the nine teams who are moving on to face the nine who had a bye in this round.
The nine schools who were pre-qualified are: Brown, Eckerd College, Georgetown, Harvard, St. Mary's College, Stanford, Texas A & M Galveston, Michigan and Washington.
They will be joined by Boston College, the College of Charleston, Connecticut College, Old Dominion, Tufts, Southern California, Texas, Wisconsin and William Smith College when racing for the championship gets underway on Thursday, May 27.
