Kannarkat Named CAA's Women's Tennis Tournament's Most Outstanding Performer

RICHMOND, Va. (April 22) -- Old Dominion University's Mily Kannarkat was named today the most outstanding performer at the Colonial Athletic Association's Women's Tournament.

Playing at #3-singles and #1-doubles, Kannarkat (Virginia Beach, Virginia /First Colonial) tallied a 3-0 singles mark during the tournament, while posting a 6-4, 6-2 upset over #38- nationally ranked Carolijn van Rossum of William & Mary.

The 1999 All-CAA second team member led the #4-seed Lady Monarchs to a 5-3 victory over #5-seed James Madison University in the first round of the tournament, knocking off the Dukes' #3-seed Elizabeth Simon, 6-3, 6-1.

Facing van Rossum in the semifinal round, the freshman netted ODU's lone win against the eventual championship winning Tribe. W&M currently holds a #9-national ranking.

In a consolation bracket setback to #2-seed Virginia Commonwealth University, Kannarkat scored ODU's only singles victory by upending Lenka Zacharova, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, as the Lady Monarchs fell, 5-1.

Kannarkat finished the season with a 25-9 singles record and a 20-8 doubles mark.
