Wrestling hits the road for the Knight Point Open

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University wrestling team will open their season on Sunday, Nov. 4 in Clarion, Pa. for the Knight Point Open.
The tournament is being hosted by Clarion University in the Tippin Gymnasium. Matches are scheduled to go throughout the day.
The Monarchs have been preseason ranked No. 23 by the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll.
ODU sent a total of seven wrestlers to the NCAA tournament last year. Five of those seven wrestlers return to the Monarch lineup this season.
Redshirt sophomore Jerome Robinson (125) was twice named the CAA Rookie of the Week last season and placed third at the CAA Championships while earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships in St. Louis.
Scott Festejo (133) went 23-16 a year ago and won the CAA title to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. The junior led the team in falls with seven and defeated three NCAA qualifiers last season.
Justin LaValle went the furthest of any Old Dominion wrestler in the NCAA Championships last season. The redshirt junior went 27-16 at 141 pounds and recorded three victories over NCAA qualifiers during the season. He placed second at the CAA Championships.
John Nicholson went 27-8 a season ago at 157 pounds. The redshirt junior was twice named CAA Wrestler of the Week and finished second in the CAA Championships. Nicholson recorded a team-high 13 major decisions and was fourth in NCAA Division I in major decisions.
Tristan Warner (165) went 27-16 last season. The junior had six wins over NCAA qualifiers and finished second at the CAA Championships. He was twice named the CAA Wrestler of the Week and was also named to the CollegeSports360.com's Primetime Performer of the Week Honor Roll on Feb. 8.
Old Dominion held their annual Blue-Silver Intrasquad scrimmage on Oct. 25.
During the scrimmage, Scott Festejo proved to be more than Michael Hayes could handle on his way to a 10-3 major decision in the 133 weight class.
125 pound redshirt freshman Rob Deutsch cruised to an 11-2 major decision over. Chris Mecate beat Josh Clark via major decision in an 8-0 141 pound bout.
Tristan Warner earned a 10-3 decision over Adrin Taylor at 165 pounds.
Billy Curling had no problems with Marcus Johnson en route to a 10-1 major decision. Matt Tourdot majored Lucas Ryan 10-1 in a battle of the heavyweights.
