Five Monarchs Score Double Figures In Blue-White Scrimmage

NORFOLK, VA-- Five Monarchs led by senior forward Chris Cooper led the way in double figures in the annual ODU Blue-White scrimmage game Saturday afternoon in a contest for Hoops for Smiles, Benefitting Children Worldwide Suffering from Clefts.

Chris Cooper scored 17, Trian Iliadis 15, Marquel DeLancey and Donte Hill 11 each and Nick Wright scored 10.

Cooper hauled down a game high 17 rebounds with two blocked shots and two steals. Iliadis hit three treys along with two steals, while De Lancey was 4-for-eight from the field with three assists.

Junior forward Nick Wright hauled down nine rebounds, blocked a shot and was also four-for-eight from the floor.

Freshman Breon Key led the squad with five assists, followed by red-shirtr freshman Dimitri Batter with four. Key scored eight and fellow peninsula player Batted added seven points.

Operation Smile and Old Dominion University are teaming up to help children worldwide who are suffering from cleft lips and cleft palates. During the Blue-White Scrimmage on Saturday, October 29,at approximately 4 p.m. ODU fans are asked to bring items for the Smile Bags that are given to patients on Operation Smile medical missions. The first 600 children to attend will receive a free exclusive Hoops for Smiles basketball.

Operation Smile provides free reconstructive surgery for children worldwide, healing their smiles and giving them hope for a brighter future. After patients receive their life-transforming surgery on a medical mission, each child receives a Smile Bag bursting with goodies. One of the most important items in the Smile Bags is a mirror so that children can see their new smiles for the first time. Smile Bags are the perfect gift to cheer a healing child.

The Monarchs play Barton College in an exhibition game on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. then Elizabeth City on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. before opening the regular season on Nov. 12 against Northern Iowa at the Constant Center.
