NORFOLK, Va. - When the Old Dominion men's swimming squad head into Fairfax, Virginia for the Colonial Athletic Association Championships February 23-26, they'll do so with their best record in school history--10-1. The Monarch's only loss was a narrow 151-140 setback at UNC-Wilmington January 21, and since then, ODU has rolled off four straight wins, including three last weekend. Last season, ODU finished with a 3-6-1 record and a 6th place finish in the CAA Championship.

That success hasn't been missed by the conference office, naming two ODU swimmers and a Monarch diver CAA Performers of the Week this season. Junior Nate Tschohl (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory) and Freshman Patrik Balint (Budapest, Hungary) have taken home the award for swimming, while senior diver Tommy Dingus (Falls Church, VA) has been named CAA Men's Diver of the Week once.

"I think the difference this year is that the leaders stepped up," Head Coach Carol Withus said. "We graduated only senior last year and we added just three guys to the team, so the major change has been the attitude of the team. They've learned how to win."

The addition of Patrik Balint has given an already talented team another boost. Since joining the Monarchs this spring, Balint has already broken his own school record in the 100 backstroke, swimming in 50.98 during the first leg of the Men's 400 Medley Relay Saturday against JMU.

"Patrik's a very versatile swimmer, competing in every event with the exception of the breaststroke," Coach Withus said.

After concluding their final regular season meets last weekend, the Monarchs are spending the next few weeks preparing for the CAA Championships.

"I think the men will finish in the top four at the CAA Championships," said Withus. "I think top four for the women also."
