Srugo Advances To Second Round Of NCAA Tournament

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Old Dominion's Harel Srugo advanced to the second round in singles of the 2006 NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament as he defeated Raian Luchici 6-3, 6-7, 6-0 in the first round of 64 at Taube Stadium at Stanford University.
Luchici was ranked #10 nationally was selected as the ITA senior player of the year, while Srugo earned CAA Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors and is currently ranked #23 nationally.
Srugo broke Luchici serve at five all in the second during a game that exceeded a dozen deuces; however, Srugo did not hold serve and eventually lost the second set in a tiebreaker. Srugo recovered from the second set and earned a 6-0 victory in the third.
Srugo will resume second round play on Thursday against Clement Reix from Clemson and he will also participate in doubles with Alex Seleznev. Reix is ranked 30th in the latest ITA Poll holding a 31-7 overall mark. He defeated Matt Baccarani of Ball State in his first round match-up.
ODU's doubles team of Seleznev and Srugo take on Markus Dickhardt and Benedikt Stronk from San Diego State in their first round match. The San Diego State duo is ranked 13th nationally with a 16-4 record. Srugo and Seleznev are ranked 43rd in the country posting an 18-3 record entering the tournament
