FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. -- Former Lady Monarch Tzipi Obziler advanced to the second round of the U.S. Open on Tuesday afternoon with a 7-5, 6-3victory over Angelique Widjaja of Indonesia. Obziler will face the tournament's top seed in Justine Hennin-Hardenne in the second round. Belgium native Hennin-Hardenne captured the U.S. Open Title in 2003 and most recently captured the Australian Open in 2004. She defeated her opponent, Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic, 6-1, 6-4, in her opening round match-up. While at Old Dominion, Obziler won the ITA National Clay Court in 1995 and became the #1 player in the country before pursuing a professional tennis career. She advanced to the second round of the Australian open earlier this year. Current ODU tennis director, Darryl Cummings, is serving as Obziler's coach at the US Open.
