Old Dominion Men's Tennis Opens Dual Meet Season Against George Washington

NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The Old Dominion men's tennis team, ranked 74th in the most recent ITA Poll, opened its dual meet season on a high note by blanking George Washington, 7-0, at the indoor courts at the Center Court Racket Club in Newport News.

Old Dominion swept through all six singles matches which included a 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 victory at No. 1 singles by 13th ranked Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa).

Four of the six singles matches were decided in two sets. Senior Zoltan Csanadi (Timisoara, Romania) was leading Matt Treadgold, 6-4, 1-0, at No. 2 singles before the match was retired. Senior Calin Milos (Timisoara, Romania) downed Jake Jopling, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and senior Niklas Oskarsson defeated Marius Weigert, 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Adriano Mello (Londrina, Brazil) earned his first victory of the dual meet season with a 6-1, 6-4 effort at No. 4 singles over Daniel Raisbeck , while Nate Grover (Suffolk, VA), playing in his first intercollegiate dual meet, earned a 61-, 3-6, 6-2 win over Jason Sucoll.
