NORFOLK, VA -- Old Dominion's Beth Anders, who became only the second coach in collegiate field hockey history to notch 400 career wins, was named the VaSID Coach of the Year in field hockey in a vote by members of the organization. Her captain this year, Adrienne Yoder (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh), was named the Commonwealth's Player of the Year. The Monarchs led all schools with five members of the team, while the Virginia Cavaliers had three honorees and the Dukes of James Madison had a pair on the team.

Anders, who defeated conference rival William & Mary 2-0 on October 12 to notch victory #400, was the top seed in the NCAA tournament in 2001 and closed the season with a 18-5 record, going 18-3 in her final 21 games. She currently sports a career record of 407-60-7, which ranks second all-time among all coaches.

Yoder, a first-team NFHCA All-American selection in 2001, marshalled a Monarch defense that recorded 10 shutouts and was the ninth-ranked scoring defense in the nation, allowing a scant 1.07 goals per game. Yoder was named the CAA co-Defender of the Year in 2001 while ranking 13th nationally with 36 points (12g 12 a). She was also named the MVP of the CAA Tournament, which the Monarchs won.

Joining Yoder on the team are teammates Marybeth Freeman (Holland, Pa./Council Rock), Melissa Leonetti (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield Township), Tara Herrmann (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and Tiffany Snow (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual). Freeman, the keeper for the Monarchs, ranked eighth nationally in goals-against average.

Representing the Cavaliers are second-team All-American Carrie Goodloe (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs), third-team All-American Jessica Coleman (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional), and Katie Jo Gerfen (Lititz, Pa./Warwick). JMU placed CAA co-Defender of the Year Elize van Ballegooie (Zwolle, the Netherlands/Thorbecke) and Traci Forchetti (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock) on the team. Richmond placed Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year Heather Rice (Oklahoma City, Okla./Holland Hall) while the Tribe of William & Mary had Katie Silverthorne (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax).

This is the second year that VaSID has sponsored a team.
