Women's Tennis Upends #54 Virginia, 4-3

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Feb. 7) -- The Old Dominion women's tennis team collected a strong 4-3 victory over #54 Virginia Wednesday afternoon at the Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach. With the win, the Lady Monarchs improve to 2-1 overall (0-1 CAA) while Virginia falls to 0-1.

Old Dominion started the match by sweeping all three doubles contests and claiming the doubles point. The Lady Monarchs then went on the split singles play, 3-3, but hung on for victory because of the doubles point. Fourth-ranked freshman sensation Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel), sophomore Mily Kannarkat (Virginia Becah, Va.), and freshman Lara van Rooyen (Pretoria, South Africa) all collected singles wins for the Lady Monarchs.

The Lady Monarchs will host UNC-Greensboro Friday at 1 pm in a match played at Centre Court Racquet Club in Newport News.
