Lady Monarch Lacrosse Announces 2004 Schedule

NORFOLK, VA -- The 2004 Old Dominion women's lacrosse schedule has been released and among the 16 opponents awaiting the Lady Monarchs this spring, six are NCAA Tournament participants and four were ranked among the Top 20 in the final IWLCA Poll.
The season gets underway with a road game against American on March 6th before the Lady Monarchs return home for their first games on their home turf at Foreman Field. The University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) serves as Old Dominion's home opener on March 13th. Both American and UMBC were one of 16 teams to earn berths to the 2004 NCAA Tournament.
Other non-conference home games at Foreman Field include Richmond on March 17th, NCAA participant Temple on March 26th, Lafayette on March 28th, and #14 North Carolina on April 11th. The Lady Monarchs will also travel to NCAA semi-finalists Maryland on March 20th, NCAA runner-up Virginia on April 7th, and Rutgers, who received votes in the final Top 20 poll, on April 27th to close out the regular season.
The race for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title begins on April 2nd when the Lady Monarchs travel to George Mason on April 2nd. A rematch of the CAA title game will take place at Foreman Field on April 4th when James Madison returns to Norfolk. Old Dominion will face Hofstra and Drexel on the road on April 9th and April 11th respectively and close out the conference portion of its schedule hosting Delaware on April 16th and Towson on April 18th.
The regular season CAA champion will host the 2004 CAA Women's Lacrosse Championships with the top four teams in the league advancing to post-season play.
The Towson match-up on April 18th will serve as the Lady Monarchs' annual Scholarship Game, with proceeds from the $5.00 admission to benefit women's lacrosse scholarships at Old Dominion. Admission to all other Lady Monarch home games are free. Additionally, the Hampton Roads Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse, will once again host a clinic at the Scholarship Game.
The Lady Monarch women's lacrosse team finished the 2003 campaign ranked 19th in the final IWLCA Poll with a 12-4 overall mark. Old Dominion captured the regular season CAA title with a 7-0 regular season conference mark and advanced to the CAA title game for the second straight season. Nine starters and 17 letterwinners return for the 2004 season.
