Kevin Sutton begins his first season on the Old Dominion University basketball staff. Last season, Sutton served as athletic director and head basketball coach at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, MD.
Sutton was selected the beltway basketball League Coach-of-the Year in 1999 after Montrose captured the conference championship. The squad posted a 32-6 record and was ranked as high as #18 in the Washington, DC area. The Mustangs finished second in the nation among Christian Schools.
Sutton previously served as the associate head coach at St. John's Prospect Hall in Frederick, MD., from 1992-1998. During his stint at St. John's, he coached ten nationally ranked teams, including the 1998 team that earned No. 1 status. He has helped develop numerous great players in Randolph Childress, Nate James, Serge Zwikker, George Lynch, Cameron Dollar and Jason Capel.
In addition to his stints at Montrose and St. John's, Sutton served as assistant coach at Harker Preparatory School in Potomac, MD., from 1990-1992 and as an assistant coach at Flint Hill Prep in Falls Church from 1988-1990.
A 1988 graduate of James Madison University in trade and industrial education with a minor in psychology. Sutton served as a graduate assistant coach for the Dukes from 1986-88. He and wife Ivette have a son, Isaiah, born in March 24, 1999.
