No. 8 ODU Hosts No. 2 Maryland Friday At 5 P.M.

NORFOLK, Va. -- The eighth ranked Lady Monarchs field hockey team hosts the second ranked University of Maryland on Friday at 5 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

The Lady Monarchs (1-1) are coming off of Sunday's 2-1 overtime win over American University in which they outshot the Eagles 22-7. Junior Rosario Villagra (1G, 1A) and Junior Kelsey Smither (1G, 1A) each lead the team with three points. Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Hept (1-1) carries a 2.39 goals against-average.

Maryland opened their regular season with an 8-4 win against New Hampshire on Saturday and won 5-1 at Temple on Sunday. 

Villagra was recently named to the BIG EAST Conference honor roll after scoring the game-winning goal in overtime Sunday against American University.

Lady Monarchs Against Maryland

Series Record: Maryland leads 25-23-1

Last Two Meetings: Oct. 12, 2012 - Maxine Fluharty scored two goals and helped Maryland defeat ODU 5-2 at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. The two teams also met last year on Aug. 31, 2012 - Sarah Breen and Kimberly Oakes each scored a goal as ODU defeated Maryland 2-1 at College Park.
