NORFOLK, VA- ODU senior forward Tim Hopkinson (Nottingham, England)  has been named C-USA Men’s Soccer Offensive  Player of the Week after his three-goal performance in the Monarchs 5-0 win over VMI Friday night.  The ODU Soccer Monarchs (3-2) hit the road to College Park, MD where they will play the 8th (NSCAA Coaches Poll) ranked Terps of Maryland (2-2-2) Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Ludwig Field.

ODU has won two straight, and this will be the Monarchs second ranked opponent this season.

Tim Hopkinson scored three goals to lead the Soccer Monarchs to a 5-0 victory over VMI Friday evening at ODU.  This is the second time in Hopkinson’s career he has netted three goals in one match.

He actually scored ODU's first three goals of the evening.  Last year, Hopkins got the hat trick in a match against Seton Hall, and now has a team best six goals and 13 total points thus far this season. He has now scored five goals in his last two matches, including scoring two a week ago against UCF.

Hopkinson currently ranks third nationally in goals and seventh nationally in total points.

Maryland defeated fourth ranked Clemson, 3-1 Saturday after tying second ranked North Carolina 2-2 the week before.   Leading the Terps in scoring with 11 points each are senior forward and first team All-American Patrick Mullins with four goals and three assists, and sophomore midfielder Schillo Tshuma with five goals and one assist.  Tshuma was selected to the College Cup All-Tournament team and ACC All-Freshmen squad. Sophomore Tsubasa Endoh is the assist leader with four.

THE SERIES:  Maryland leads, 10-4-1.  Last year, the contest was postponed midway in the first half because of wet grounds at ODU.   The Monarchs last win over Maryland was in a 2-1 decision in 1993.

The Monarchs open C-USA play this weekend at No.15 Tulsa Saturday night.
