ODU Hosts Northern Illinois and Central Michigan Friday and Sunday
NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University wrestling team hosts Mid-American Conference opponents Northern Illinois University (Championship effort) and Central Michigan University this weekend at the Ted Constant Center.
The Monarchs (5-8, 1-2) resume MAC competition after picking up their first MAC victory in school history last Saturday in Buffalo, New York. ODU defeated non conference opponent Binghamton by a 21-10 final last Friday.
Old Dominion is one of only two teams to have played three conference games and this weekend gives the Monarchs an opportunity to rise all the way to No. 3 in the MAC standings. The team is only 1.5 games out of third place and a win against CMU would give the Monarchs the tie-breaker.
The Monarchs have faced seven ranked opponents this season including- Rider, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Iowa State, Virginia Tech, Edinboro and Virginia.
ODU's Chris Mecate is 20-6 this season and is ranked No. 5 by InterMat. Sophomore Alexander Richardson is 19-6, is ranked No. 16 by AWN and has won his last seven matches.
Old Dominion Wrestlers Michael Hayes (133), Richardson (149), Tristan Warner (157), Billy Curling (174) and Jack Dechow (184) all went 2-0 last weekend against Binghamton and Buffalo.

Series Record: ODU trails 2-0. First meeting began in 2007.
Previous Meeting: Nov. 27, 2010 - ODU fell short to the Huskies by a 16-14 final at the Hoosier Duals.
Scouting Northern Illinois The Huskies have lost their last two duals coming into Friday's match with Old Dominion. NIU lost 31-0 to No. 10 Missouri. Northern Illinois is 1-4 in the MAC. The Huskies are led by reshirt senior heavyweight wrestler Jared Torrence, who is 13-12 and 3-2 in the MAC this year.

Series Record: ODU trails 4-1. First meeting came in 2009.
Previous Meeting: Feb. 3, 2013 - ODU lost 25-6 to Central Michigan. Redshirt freshman Chris Mecate and senior Brennan Brumley picked up wins for the Monarchs.
Scouting Central Michigan CMU is led by junior Mike Ottinger (174), who is 17-2 and 6-0 in the conference this season. Senior Zach Horan (141) is 21-2 and 5-0 in the MAC. Luke Smith (157) is also a perfect 5-0 in the conference. Since a year ago, Joe Roth (133), Scott Mattingly (149), Ottinger and Craig Kelliher (184) have all moved up one weight class. Roth is currently ranked No. 13, Cory Keener (125) is ranked No. 12, Horan is ranked No. 10, Smith is ranked No. 19 and Ottinger is ranked No. 8 by InterMat. The Chippewas have won two of their last three dual matches and are 1-1 on the road this year on Sunday's.
