Old Dominion cornerback Reggie Owens heads into his senior season looking to improve on what has been a solid career as a two-year starter at corner for the Monarchs.

“Being at Old Dominion has been a great experience so far. Throughout the years I feel like I have improved academically and on the field too,” Owens said. “I am looking forward to my senior year playing football and hope to accomplish more interceptions, tackles, pass deflections, and to gain more stats overall, and help the team continue to win.”

Owens is from Virginia Beach and played a multitude of sports growing up. He started playing football, baseball, basketball, and running track at a young age. As he got older, Reggie narrowed it down to basketball, track and football, eventually choosing football as his passion.

Just like the successful startup football team the Monarchs have become, Owens has made a name for himself as a mainstay at corner on the ODU defense.  He started all 12 games last season, registering 28 tackles, an interception, sack and two forced fumbles.

Owens’ pregame routine is low key, listening to music and mentally preparing himself for the game.  The Virginia Beach, native does not come off the field much, and he prepares for that before the game, and also the week leading up to the game.

“I have to be ready to go at all times.  I am not used to coming out of the game,” Owens said.  “I would rather stay in and compete against whoever is across from me.”

Like the rest of his teammates, Owens is gearing up for ODU’s first-ever season in Conference USA.  The senior to be will be working on his footwork, strength and speed this spring season for when the Monarchs face the likes of Rice, Middle Tennessee and Marshall to begin C-USA play.
