Monarchs C-USA Home Opener Against Middle Tennessee Moved to Friday
NORFOLK - Old Dominion University athletic director Dr. Wood Selig announced today that the Monarchs home Conference USA football game with Middle Tennessee, slated for Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, has been moved to Friday, Sept. 26, at the request of C-USA for television.
“This is a tremendous honor for Old Dominion University, our football program, and our fans to be selected for a non-traditional game date and broadcast,” says Selig. “While we do not know all the details yet of this unique television opportunity, the fact that we have been asked to move our first ever C-USA home game from a Saturday to a Friday night, speaks to how well Coach Wilder and his staff and our devoted fans have positioned ODU football in the eyes of our conference broadcasting partners.”
“I consider this an immediate validation of our move to C-USA and the elevation of our football program from the FCS level to FBS football,” adds Selig.
The contest with Middle Tennessee will be the Monarchs first home conference game in Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium. ODU opens its conference schedule the week before (Sept. 20) at defending league champion Rice. Details on the game time and television coverage will be announced at a later date.
“What an exciting announcement for Old Dominion University and our fan base,” says ODU head football coach Bobby Wilder. “A nationally televised home game will showcase one of the best college environments in the country for our University and the Hampton Roads region. Our program is thrilled with this opportunity to play our first ever C-USA home game in front of a national audience. Playing a quality program like Middle Tennessee, a bowl participant in 2013, makes this event even more special for Old Dominion.”
