About The Herd
Doc Holliday begins his fifth season as head coach at Marshall. He led the Herd to a 10-4 overall record and 7-1 record in Conference USA. Marshall won the C-USA East and lost to Rice in the C-USA Championship Game. The Thundering Herd defeated Maryland 31-20 in this past year’s Military Bowl.

Marshall graduates leading rusher Essray Taliaferro while returning junior Steward Butler carried 87 times for 765 yards and eight touchdowns.

Rakeem Cato was named the 2013 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year, completing 298-of-499 passes for 3,916 yards and 39 touchdowns.  He was also named Second-Team All-Conference USA.

Junior Tommy Shuler recorded 106 receptions, four shy of his record-breaking season in 2012, for 1,165 yards. He broke the Conference USA’s record for catches in a single game with 19 receptions at Purdue in 2012 for 200 yards.

Evan McKelvey led the Thundering Herd with 97 tackles and added an interception. James Rouse added 6 sacks and 14 tackles for loss.

In the NFL
Marshall has nine players currently in the NFL including running back Ahmad Bradshaw and Aaron Dobson, a second round pick of the New England Patriots.  The second round pick of Dobson marks the second-straight year the Thundering Herd have had a player taken in the second round, as Vinny Curry was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Marshall also has had three first round picks since 1998, starting with Randy Moss in 1998 by the Minnesota Vikings, Chad Pennington in 2000 by the New York Jets, and Byron Leftwich by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2003.

The Game
This will be the first meeting between the defending C-USA East champion Thundering Herd and Old Dominion.
