FARMVILLE, Va. – Senior attacker Emily Austerberry scored five goals but ODU’s comeback fell short as the Lady Monarchs lost 16-13 to the Longwood Lancers Thursday afternoon at the Athletics Complex.

ODU (2-5) managed to score the opening goal in their fifth consecutive game coming from freshman Connor Carson (fifth of the year), which gave ODU the 1-0 lead. Old Dominion's Morgan Gallagher gave the Lady Monarchs the lead yet again with her sixth of the season at 22:40, ODU led 2-1.

Longwood managed to take a 3-2 lead until ODU's freshman midfielder Megan Cameron went top shelf for her fourth goal of the season with the assist going to Ashmore Standing. Longwood tallied two more to take a 5-3 lead until Old Dominion senior attacker Emily Austerberry scored the first of her five on the day at 14:10 on a free position shot.

The Lancers led ODU 6-4 heading into the break. Longwood scored the first three goals in the second half to take a commanding 9-4 lead. Austerberry finished off her second goal (10th of the year) with an assist to Ashmore Standing to cut the Longwood lead to 9-5. The Lancers responded with four straight to take a 13-5 lead.

Junior attacker Jessica Liberty scored her 12th of the year with an assist to Megan Cameron to stop the Lancers. Gallagher tallied one more on a free position shot, Christina Rea scored her eighth of the year to cut the Longwood lead to 14-9.

Old Dominion trailed 16-8 with 2:30 left until Emily Austerberry went on a tear. She scored at 2:18 from Liberty, Megan Topper scored her sixth of the season followed by Austerberry and then 15 seconds later Austerberry again. The senior co-captain scored her team-leading 13th of the season with 48 seconds left. Carson added her second of the day from Liberty with 12 seconds left, but it was just a little too late as ODU fell 16-13.
