120+ Student Athletes Participate in Career Forum at ODU
NORFOLK, Va. - More than 120 Student-athletes took part in a Career Forum hosted by career athletes at Old Dominion.
Student-athletes had the opportunity to hear an employer panel, participate in speed networking through roundtable discussions, and talk with 20 organizations during the career fair portion.
"I think it was nice because it was different than other career fairs where the pressure is put on students where they have to approach recruiters," said odu women's soccer player Amber Cook. "In this kind of set up the recruiters had to approach us and pitch their company and that made the student-athletes feel more comfortable to approach them. I thought it was a great opportunity for students to get out what they put in and the event went really well."
Topics included the unique skill set of student-athletes that is particulary appealing to employers and directive on the networking process.
April Brecht, Director of the Jacobson Athletic Academic Center, said that "this was a great opportunity for our student-athletes to not only learn about the process of networking, but to gain first-hand experience with national employers and graduate schools."
