T.C. Warner Scores Victory for Team USA via Major Decision
MARIETTA, Ga. – Old Dominion wrestling recruit T.C. Warner (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) earned a 14-6 major decision win to help propel Team USA to victory in the 18th annual Cliff Keen/Wrestling USA Magazine Dream Team Classic, held at Lassiter High School in Georgia. The dual meet-style event, which pits the nation’s best hand-selected wrestlers against an all-star team comprised of grapplers from just one state, saw Team USA defeat Team Georgia 37-15. Warner, fresh off capturing a Pennsylvania state title last month, ended his high school wrestling career on a high note Saturday afternoon with the triumph over Georgia’s Matthew Moody at 152 lbs.
“It was an honor to represent Team USA in an event like this,” Warner said. “I had fun competing in the match and it was nice to pull out a win.”
The Mechanicsburg, Pa. native got out to a quick 4-0 lead early by securing a takedown and two nearfall points. After yielding a quick reversal, Warner escaped to take a 5-2 lead after the first period. The second and third period saw Warner score takedowns in two exciting scramble positions before adding another set of nearfall points to cruise to a 14-6 major decision over his feisty Georgia opponent.
