Six ODU Wrestlers Named to Virginia All-State Teams

NORFOLK, Va. - Jack Dechow, Chris Mecate, Billy Curling, Tristan Warner, Brandon Jeske and Alexander Richardson of the ODU Wrestling team were named to the 2014 Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State Wrestling team.

Dechow was named to the Virginia SID First Team and finished his redshirt freshman season claiming All-American honors after his fourth place finish at the 2014 NCAA Tournament. Dechow finished the year 21-6 after being hurt midseason.

Mecate, Curling, Warner, Jeske and Richardson were all named to the Virginia SID Second Team.

141-pounder Mecate qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season and was the highest Monarch seeded fifth. Mecate ranked as high as No. 4 throughout the season, with an RPI rank of two, while completing a 28-9 season.

Warner qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the last three seasons. He won the Elite 89 Award at the NCAA Championships. Warner completed the season 19-13.

Jeske, a true freshman, qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in his career. He won his first match against CMU's Corey Keener.

149-pounder Richardson qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year and was seeded 16th at the tournament and won his first match at the NCAA's. Richardson finished 26-10 on the season. 

Senior 174-pound wrestler Billy Curling finished 18-10 this season and qualified for the NCAA's for the second straight year. Curling was seeded 15th and won his first match at the NCAA's. Curling finished the season 18-10 and 63-49 in his career.
