NORFOLK, VA—The Paradise Jam tournament officials at Basketball Travelers Inc. announced today that Old Dominion University Monarchs will play the LSU Tigers in the third of four quarterfinal games on Friday, Nov. 21. The tournament will be held at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center. Game time is 6:30 ET. (NOTE: The Virgin Islands are on Atlantic Standard time- 1 hour head of Eastern Standard Time.).-Bracket attached.
The Monarchs will face either Illinois State or Weber State in the Nov. 22 semifinals/consolation semifinals. ODU won 18 games last year, finished sixth in its first season in Conference USA and tied for first nationally as the most improved team from a year ago.
This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools in men’s basketball. The Tigers, coached by Jimmy Jones were 20-14 last year and reached the second round of the NIT.
Illinois State was 18-16 a year ago, but also lost in the semis of the CBI, while Weber State was 19-12 and won the Big Sky regular season title with a 14-6 record. The 19-12 Wildcats also won the Big Sky Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament where they lost to Arizona in the second round. The other half of the bracket will have Clemson meeting Gardner Webb and Seton Hall facing Nevada.
The Paradise Jam tournament takes place annually the week before Thanksgiving and this year will be held November 21-24 at the University of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas, USVI. This will be the Monarchs third trip to this tournament. ODU lost to Wisconsin in the championship game in 2005 and won the tournament Championship in 2010.
Clemson has been to the islands twice before placing 2nd in inaugural men’s tournament in 2001 and 3rd in 2010.
