EVANSTON, Ill. -- Old Dominion's Jack Dechow topped defending 174 lb. NCAA Champion Myles Martin of Ohio State, 7-4, in the quarterfinals to punch his ticket to the semis of the 54th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships Thursday evening at Northwestern. Moments later, Kevin Beazley knocked off 2016 NCAA All-American Brett Harner from Princeton, 5-2, to earn a second semifinalist for the Monarchs.

Entering the tournament as the No. 7 seed, Jack Dechow got off to a fast start, as the fifth-year senior earned a 12-3 major decision over Indiana's Norman Conley in round one and followed up with a 3-1 OT victory over NC State's top-20 ranked Michael Machiavello. In the quarters, despite surrendering the initial takedown, Dechow scored a pair of takedowns, including the match-sealing double leg that clinched the upset over 2016 NCAA Champion Myles Martin of Ohio State.

Kevin Beazley got the momentum rolling early with a 16-0 tech. fall win over Rutgers' Anthony Messner in the opening round. The redshirt junior from Howell, Michigan then took out Central Michigan's Austin Severn, 9-4, in the round of 16 before controlling his way to a 5-2 victory over the All-American Harner on the strength of two first period takedowns.

Seldon Wright went 3-1 on the day for the Monarchs at 165 before medically forfeiting out of the tournament.

Freshmen Kevin Budock and Abner Romero, competing unattached, each earned two victories of their own at 141 and 165, respectively.

Dechow and Beazley will take the mats tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET in the semifinals of the Midlands Championships. Dechow will face sixth-seeded Nick Gravina of Rutgers while Beazley will take on top-seeded Nate Rotert from South Dakota State.
