ODU to Host Several Events Weekend of Spring Football Game

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University will host several events in conjunction with the annual spring game on Saturday, April 15, including the 49th Annual Toyota Charity Bowl and fourth annual Big Blue 5K.

The day will begin with the Big Blue 1K kids run at 10 a.m. and followed by the 5K at 10:30 a.m. The runners will finish on the 50-yardline at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium with a post-race party taking place in the Silver Lot adjacent to the football stadium. To register or for more information on the race click here. ODU Football head coach Bobby Wilder will be the official race starter for the 5K. Last year more than 2,600 runners participated in the race.

The 49th Annual Toyota Charity Bowl will begin at 1 p.m. in the stadium and admission is free, featuring many celebrities from the Hampton Roads area.  Past participants have included NFL greats such as Bruce Smith, Ed Beard, Walker Gillette, William Fuller and Tony Siragusa attended last year’s event, and the event annually raises over $400,000 for youth charities in Hampton Roads.  There will be an autograph session with the celebrities during the game. The Washington Redskins cheerleaders will be in attendance, as well as the Joe Gibbs Racing #18 M&M ShowCar.

To finalize the day’s events, the football Monarchs will play their annual spring game at 3 p.m., also a free event. The “Voice of the Monarchs”, Ted Alexander, and color commentator Andy Mashaw, will broadcast live on ESPN Radio 94.1. Following the game there will be an autograph session on the field with the Monarchs.

Parking for the 49th Annual Toyota Charity Bowl and spring game will be available in the Ted Constant parking decks, as well as the red garage on 49th street.
