NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion rowing heads to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to compete in the 2017 Big 12 Rowing Championships on May 13-14. For the third straight year, the Big 12 Rowing Championships will take place at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Over the course of two days the teams will compete in over 20 heats vying for the 2017 Big 12 Championship Title. Saturday's races will serve as the preliminary heats, while Sunday's races are the finals. The Big 12 Champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Rowing Championships at the end of the month.

The University of Texas, the perennial powerhouse, earned the top seed in the First Eight, Second Eight, First Four, Second Four, Third Eight and Third Four races. They have won six of the eight Big 12 Rowing titles. Oklahoma, the only other team to achieve such status, received the second seed, while Tennessee and Alabama split the third seed.

ODU, who is racing four boats this weekend, received the seventh seed in the First and Third Eights, while they received the eighth seed in the Second Eight and First Four.

Old Dominion last competed at the George Mason Invitational on April 22-23. At the GMU Invitational the Lady Monarchs joined forces with Big 12 opponents, Kansas and West Virginia, as they competed against two trios of teams from both the CAA and A-10, battling for the pride of their conferences.
