NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women's lacrosse is back at the world stage this week with the start of the 2017 Women's Lacrosse World Cup. Former Lady Monarchs Shelby Davis ('13) and Denise Roessler (‘95) will partake in the tournament as part of the coaching staff for the German National team.
Davis was named the head coach of the German team in the fall of 2016. She started all 64 games in her four years at ODU, earning CAA All-Rookie team honors in 2010 and was twice named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll in 2011 and 2013.
During her time as a Lady Monarch, Davis scored four career goals adding three assists for seven total points. She tallied 48 draw controls, scooped up 88 ground balls and forced 38 caused turnovers. Davis was named a co-captain as a senior alongside Jordynn Collins in 2013.
Roessler also joined the German National team in the fall of 2016 as an assistant coach to Davis. Roessler has spent the last 18 years coaching collegiately at both Saint Joesph's (1998-2014) and Bryn Athyn (2015-present).
She led the Saint Joesph Hawks to two Atlantic 10 tournament appearances and earned Coach of the Year laurels in 2009. Roessler coached 31 Atlantic 10 All-Conference athletes and had 25 student-athletes earn All-Academic honors.
