Field Hockey Announces 2017 Schedule
By ODU Athletics
NORFOLK, Va. -- Head coach Andrew Griffiths and the Old Dominion field hockey program released the schedule for the upcoming 2017 season on Monday.
"We are looking forward to an exciting season of hockey this year," said Griffiths. "We play a number of strong out-of-conference teams in the early part of the season. Those teams are going to challenge us and prepare us for Big East league play."
The 17-game slate opens on Aug. 25 when the Monarchs host Penn State at 6 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. Overall, the schedule features nine home contests and six matchups against opponents who qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season, including two showdowns against foes who reached last year's Final Four (UConn, North Carolina).
In addition to national field hockey powers, the 2017 schedule also features a bevy of in-state opponents, including James Madison, Richmond, Liberty, William & Mary and Virginia.
"We have a good balance with teams that play different styles of hockey," said Griffiths. "There will be some great home games to watch at our home field at L.R. Hill."
The 2017 Big East Tournament will be hosted by Providence on Nov. 3 and 5. The NCAA Tournament then begins on Nov. 11 with the Final Four taking place Nov. 17-19.
