WOLCOTT, Colo. -- Katerina Vlasinova recorded a top-five finish to lead the Old Dominion women's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky Golf Club this week.
Old Dominion (+21) posted a final team round of two-under par on Wednesday and were one of only six teams to record a sub-par round on the final day of competition. The Monarchs finished 15 shots behind team champion Denver (+8) and were just one stroke behind a tie for fifth with SMU, Louisville and San Diego State (+20). Overall, there were a total of 18 teams in the event.
"Today, everyone was hitting on all cylinders and we were able to shoot under par," said head coach Mallory Hetzel. "Any time you shoot under par as a team, you are doing a lot of things well."
Individually, Vlasinova (-3) fired a three-under final round to finish fourth overall and finished just four shots off the lead. Fellow senior Maggie Simmermacher (+1) placed just outside of the top 10, tying for 11th.
"Kate and Maggie did what all great seniors do," said Hetzel. "They lead us by example. I expect both of them will win soon."
