Rowing Monarchs Travel to Head of the Hooch to Close Fall Schedule

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Old Dominion women’s rowing team will travel to Chattanooga to compete in the Head of the Hooch Regatta on Nov. 4-5. The Head of the Hooch, also known as the Head of the Chattahoochee is the second largest regatta in North America. This will be ODU’s seventh time competing at the event.
Last year, Old Dominion placed three boats in the top 10 at the Head of the Hooch.
Starting off the event for Old Dominion, Amanda Brown, Erin Welsh, Monica Jory, Courtney Moore, Haley Crispell, Danielle Yoxthimer, Olivia Taylor, Jillian Moran, Monique McNealy (coxswain) will be competing in the Women’s Championship 8+ in Boat A and in Boat B, Francesca Gonzalez, Irena Tobola, Lysette Rivera-Cortes, Brooke Ripley, Madeline Doherty, Margaret Fluharty, Alexa Williams, Taylor Phy, Ave McFadden (coxswain) will also be coming in the the Women’s Championship 8+.
To end the weekend there will be three boats competing in the Women’s Open 8+ on Sunday, Nov. 5.
“This has been a great fall for our program as we’ve progressed with our fitness and comraderie. I’m looking forward to seeing how they’ll do at the Hooch and I am hopeful for a solid weekend,” said head coach Daniel Garbutt.
The races take place on the Tennessee River and there will be over 20,000 competitors at the competition.
Between the Head of the Charles and the Head of the Hooch, the Monarchs will have faced over 80 collegiate teams.
