NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion (12-5-2) men’s soccer team will host NC State (8-5-4) in the NCAA Championship First Round on Thursday, Nov. 16 at the ODU Soccer Complex at 7PM ET. The Monarchs earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Championship after winning the C-USA Championship Final over Charlotte, 1-0.

ODU learned of their first round opponent on Monday afternoon.

This will be the Monarchs 14th appearance at the NCAA Tournament and are playing in their first NCAA Tournament since 2014.

After a Max Wilschrey goal in the C-USA semifinal match against Marshall, Wilschrey now leads in goals for the squad with seven.

Goalkeeper Mertcan Akar enters the match against NC State with four straight shutouts and nine total shutouts.

Nine ACC teams enter the NCAA Tournament, including NC State for the first time in eight years. The Monarchs have experience playing against a team in the ACC. Earlier in the season, the Monarchs nearly defeated the Tar Heels. With two minutes left in regulation, North Carolina scored pushing the game into overtime. After two overtime periods, the Monarchs fell to the number one RPI team in the country, 2-1.

Series History
The last time ODU and NC State played was in 2004 with a final score of 2-1. The Monarchs own a 2-0-0 series mark against the Wolfpack.
