Monarchs Set to Compete at Midlands and Lock Haven Classic

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – The Old Dominion (2-3, 1-1 MAC) wrestling team will compete at the Lock Haven Classic on Dec. 29 and Midlands Tournament from Dec. 29-30. Six Monarchs will wrestle at the renowned 55th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, while the remaining student-athletes will wrestle at the Lock Haven Classic.

Most recently, the Monarchs are coming off a win over MAC opponent, NIU on Dec. 19. Ali Wahab pinned to secure the victory for Old Dominion.

Seldon Wright improved to 12-3 on the season.

About Midlands
ODU has four wrestlers in Michael McGee, Caleb Richardson, Larry Early, and Seldon Wright competing at Midlands. Killian Cardinale and Kevin Budock are competing unattached.

The prestigious Midland’s tournament is in its 55th year and a two-day event. Seeding and brackets will be announced in the coming days. 

Other teams wrestling at Midlands will be Rutgers, Illinois, Buffalo, Arizona State, Edinboro, Nebraska, Perdue, Maryland, Central Michigan, Wisconsin, Princeton, West Virginia, Brown, and more. Iowa has earned four straight Midland Championships.

Last year, the team took seven wrestlers to Midlands. Jack Dechow and Kevin Beazley both placed at the 2016 tournament.

The tournament will be tracked live on FloWrestling both days of the tournament. It was also be broadcasted live on Big Ten Network and FloWrestling, both at a subscribing cost.

9:30 AM - First Session (10 Mats)
7:00 PM - Second Session (10 Mats)

Saturday (Dec. 30)
12:00 PM – Third Session (4 Mats) – Semis, consolation, 7th place match
7:00 PM – Final Session (3 Mats) – 1st, 3rd, 5th place matches
Opening ceremonies at 6:30 p.m., Awards ceremony to conclude at 9:15 p.m.

About Lock Haven
Joining ODU at the Lock Haven Classic will be Bucknell, Buffalo, Pittsburg, Rider, and VMI. Those wrestlers attending Midlands will not be wrestling at Lock Haven. 

Previous long-time Old Dominion head coach Gray Simmons is a member of the Lock Haven Wrestling Hall of Fame.
