Wrestling Monarchs Face Campbell and No. 9 Virginia Tech at Virginia Duals on Friday

ODU Match Notes

HAMPTON, Va. – The Old Dominion (3-3, 2-1 MAC) wrestling team is set to compete at the 38th Virginia Duals at the Hampton Coliseum held on Friday, Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 13. Five teams ranked in the top-20 national poll will be competing at the event alongside Old Dominion. To start off the duals, the Monarchs will face Campbell (3-3) on Friday at 9 a.m. and No. 9 Virginia Tech (5-1) on Friday at 1 p.m. Both duals will take place on Mat 1.

The Monarchs were placed in the Hampton River Pool along with Campbell and No. 9 Virginia Tech. See attached bracket.

Depending on those results, the Monarchs could wrestle once more Friday afternoon.

About Campbell
The Camels have just as many wins as the Monarchs this season. Having wrestled 17 times in the past, the Monarchs have won every meeting between the two. Stemming from the Southern Conference, the Camels have yet to start conference action.

The last time the two met, the Monarchs took the match, 19-16.

About No. 9 Virginia Tech
The Hokies have just one loss on the season to No. 4 Missouri. The opponent is a mutual loss for the Monarchs as well. Virginia Tech has wins over two ranked opponents in Stanford and Central Michigan. 

Although not having won against the Hokies since the 2008 season, ODU takes the series advantage with a 21-18-0 record.

The Hokies have six athletes who are nationally ranked, which are Dennis Gustafson, Solomon Chishko, David McFadden, Zack Zavatsky, Jared Haught, and Andrew Dunn.
