ODU Alum Onesi Excelling in Pro Career
By ODU Athletics
NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion alum Eric Onesi recently won the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica Mazatlan Qualifying Tournament. Onesi now has full status on both the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica and PGA TOUR Canada.
Onesi, now 29, is in his eighth year as a professional.
Onesi recorded a wire-to-wire victory at the Mazatlan Qualifying Tournament at Estrella del Mar Golf & Beach Resort in Mexico, holding the lead after each of the four rounds. Overall, the Delaware native finished four shots ahead of second-place finisher Nahum Mendoza III.
With the tournament win, Onesi now holds full playing privileges for the entire 2018 PGA TOUR Latinoamerica. In addition, Onesi also holds the same status for the Mackenzie Tour, or PGA TOUR Canada, due to a top-30 finish on the tour last season.
For 2018, Onesi will travel between the two continents, playing on both tours.
At ODU, Onesi was a four-time All-CAA selection under Murray Rudisill. Onesi was a three-time individual runner-up at the CAA Championship and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA South Regional in 2009 as an individual.
