ODU Rowing Travels to Texas for Final Winter Training Trip
By ODU Athletics
NORFOLK, Va. – ODU women's rowing head coach Daniel Garbutt is sending a small group of student-athletes to New Braunfels, Texas to train and compete alongside SMU and Iowa. SMU is in the American Athletic Conference and the University of Iowa is in the Big Ten Conference.
The group of rowers will train for several days then turn to races on Friday and Saturday morning.
“This is an amazing opportunity to experience high level racing early in the year as well as a cooperative learning experience for the team,” said Garbutt.
Earlier in the winter, the rowing team traveled to Florida for training from Jan. 2-7. 22 student-athletes were brought on the trip, where they trained in the gym and on the water. Due to the winter weather in Florida, the team lost three days on the water.
“The team is proving to be bought in to the program and willing to adapt to anything.”
The Monarchs travel to Lake Gaston, N.C. on March 4-11 for Spring Training before starting up their season on the Lafayette River as they host George Mason, George Washington, and Jacksonville.
