Tutchton Named ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Four More Monarchs Earn ASUN Honors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Five lacrosse Monarchs earned ASUN honors as announced by the organization Wednesday evening. Cydney Tutchton earned ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Kerri Caruso was named to the ASUN All-Academic Team and ASUN Second Team All-Conference, Glory Johnson earned ASUN First Team All-Conference, Claire Porter and Lindsay Baer were both named to the ASUN All-Freshmen Team.

After posting a perfect 4.0 GPA in Biology, Tutchton was named the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This year she has earned the ODU Outstanding Biology Student of the Year, ODU Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and ODU Alumni Association's Outstanding Student in Biology. The senior started in each contest for the Monarchs this season, scoring 24 goals and seven assists from the midfield. Tutchton tallied seven groundballs, 24 draw controls, and seven caused turnovers. This is Tutchton’s third time being named to the ASUN All-Academic Team. Freshmen are not eligible.

Caruso also named to the ASUN All-Academic Team as well as the ASUN Second Team All-Conference. Caruso, studying Mechanical Engineering finds herself on the academic squad for the second-straight year. Caruso has started in each contest for the Monarchs and has tallied 31 grounds balls and six draw controls. The junior co-captain also ranks 18th in the NCAA for caused turnovers (34). 

Sophomore transfer Johnson was named to the 2018 ASUN First Team All-Conference. Johnson has tallied 33 goals and 16 assists this season for the Monarchs. She leads ODU in points (49). Johnson has started in each game this season and scored the game-winning goal in the Monarchs win over Mercer. She has notched 15 groundballs, 31 draw controls, and seven caused turnovers.

Named to the freshmen team, Porter played in 13 games making three starts this season. The freshman tallied five goals and eight assists on attack. She has notched five groundballs, one draw control, and three caused turnovers.

Baer joins Porter on the freshmen team. The Pennsylvania native has played in all 17 games this season. She has tallied eight goals and five assists for the Monarchs. Adding to her assists, Baer notched 11 groundballs, 12 draw controls, and four caused turnovers.
