NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women’s basketball team announced its schedule for the upcoming 2018-19 season on Friday.
The slate features 29 regular season contests, including 14 home games. Season tickets are available for purchase now on YNotTix.com.
“We are very excited about the 2018-19 schedule,” said head coach Nikki McCray-Penson. “Our goal every year is to put together a competitive schedule to allow our kids to compete at a high level and that our fans can be proud of. With traditional rivals, tough Power-5 opponents and two holiday tournaments our young ladies will be well prepared to compete in Conference USA.”
The season officially begins on the road at Campbell on Nov. 6. However, the Monarch faithful can catch their first glimpse of the 2018-19 squad in a home exhibition against Christopher Newport at the Ted Constant Center on Nov. 2.
The official home opener is slated for Nov. 9 against local foe Norfolk State.
Rounding out the non-conference schedule are home games against Virginia, Longwood, William & Mary, VCU and Coppin State and road contests at Cincinnati and NC State.
"Our home slate features William & Mary, VCU, and Virginia, which I will be excited to coach against my former Olympic teammate Tina Thompson," said McCray. "We will travel on the road to face 2018 Sweet Sixteen participant NC State and face Cincinnati as former WKU coach Michelle Clark-Heard takes the helm."
ODU will also play in a pair of tournaments including the Charleston Southern Tournament Nov. 24-25, featuring ODU, Charleston Southern, Jacksonville and Tennessee Tech. The Monarchs then head to New Orleans for the Tulane Tournament Dec. 21-22, where they will take on Tulane and then either Texas State or Saint Mary's.
Conference USA play begins Jan. 3 as the Monarchs head to Marshall for the conference opener. The remainder of the C-USA slate features home games against Florida Atlantic, FIU, UTEP, UTSA, UAB, Middle Tennessee, Charlotte and Marshall, along with road contests at WKU, LA Tech, Southern Miss, North Texas, Rice, Charlotte and Florida Atlantic.
"We are looking forward to an exciting season," continued McCray. "And we can’t wait to see Monarch fans at the Ted and on the road.”
The C-USA Tournament will be held Mar. 13-16 at The Star in Frisco, Texas, for the second consecutive season.
