KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Junior goalkeeper Mertcan Akar was named to the Men’s MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List as announced by the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club Thursday afternoon. Akar was just one of four goalkeepers named to the list.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented to the most outstanding male and female players of the year.
Coming off a stellar season, Akar collected 10 shutouts and helped lead the Monarchs to their second C-USA title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament where they advanced to the second round. The German native also tallied 82 saves in the 2017 season. Akar was most recently named to the C-USA Preseason Team.
The MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists are compiled by members of the United Soccer Coaches Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I All-America Committees. Fifteen semifinalists will be named for the MAC Hermann Trophy near the end of the college season based on voting by NCAA Division I coaches and from those candidates, three finalists will ultimately be placed on the ballot for the coveted award. This seasons winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
