PAWLEY’S ISLAND, S.C. – The Old Dominion women’s golf team earned a second place finish at the 2018 Golfweek Program Challenge with a three round total of 840, which broke the school record for lowest 54-hole score. ODU was led by freshman Jana Melichova who also finished in second as an individual. The Monarchs also broke the school record for lowest team 18-hole score for the second straight day.

Individually, starting her collegiate career with two back-to-back bogey-free rounds, Melichova posted rounds of 69, 66, 70 for an eight-under three round total of 205. Senior Sana Tufail also posted two consecutive under par scores to finish in fifth at the Golfweek Program Challenge. Sophomore Noemie Sudron collected her lowest career round on Tuesday with a two-under 69, previously her low round was a one-under 71. Charlotte DeCorte tied her career low with a 68 on Tuesday's round and also a top-10 finish. Abigail Portyata improved each day executing a final round even par to finish in a tie for 11th.

“We had three days in a row of setting scoring records and that's just a great start to the year. We weren't sure what to expect with our new team but looks like we're still pretty good, said head coach Mallory Hetzel. "It's going to be a lot of fun this weekend to see a bunch of top 25 teams at Michigan State. We welcome the challenge and hope to play our best."

The Monarchs opened the tournament on Sunday in the lead with a 282-team score. After round two, ODU was in second after posting a school record 18-hole team total of 280, two strokes better than their prior school record. In the final round, ODU posted a 278, which again broke the school record from the day before.

Finishing just ahead of the Monarchs was the Fighting Camels of Campbell who are nationally ranked 45th in the country. The tournament field had 14 teams compete.
