NORFOLK, Va. -- Head coach Chris Finwood and the Old Dominion baseball program announced the schedule for the upcoming 2019 season on Thursday.
"We're very excited about our 2019 schedule," said Finwood. "As always, we wanted to challenge ourselves with a schedule worthy of getting an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. We feel that this schedule certainly accomplishes this goal and the rest is up to us and how we play."
The 2019 slate opens with a home series against High Point (Feb. 15-17). ODU will play 34 of its 56 regular-season games at home, including the first 13 games of the season.
"With 34 home games headlined by games such as Virginia Tech at Harbor Park, Rice and East Carolina, we should have plenty of excitement for our home fans," said Finwood.
The Monarchs won't hit the road until nearly a month in the season, when they travel to Kansas State (Feb. 8-10).
"We're returning the back end of our home and home with Kansas State in March which should be exciting as ODU has never been to Manhattan, Kansas, to play before," said Finwood. "We also have tough road series with conference opponents FAU and Southern Miss. However, the reality of it is that every road series in Conference USA is a tough series."
In C-USA play, ODU gets Charlotte (Mar. 15-17), Rice (Mar. 29-31), FIU (Apr. 19-21), LA Tech (May 3-5) and Marshall (May 10-12) at home. On the road, the Monarchs will have Southern Miss (Mar. 22-24), UAB (Apr. 5-7), UTSA (Apr. 12-14), Florida Atlantic (Apr. 26-28) and WKU (May 16-18). ODU will not play Middle Tennessee in the regular season.
In addition to Kansas State and High Point, the non-conference slate also features home weekend series against Binghamton (Feb. 22-24) and Rutgers (Mar. 1-3).
"Our non-conference series at home are all against very good programs that are very well coached and will get us ready for the tough 10 weeks of C-USA play," said Finwood.
The 2019 C-USA Tournament will be held May 22-26 at MGM Park in Biloxi, Mississippi, for the third consecutive season.
