ODU Picked Second in MAC Preseason Rankings; Seven Monarchs Featured

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Old Dominion wrestling team was tabbed to finish second in the league behind defending MAC Champion Missouri. Michael McGee, Sa’Derian Perry, Kenan Carter, Larry Early, Seldon Wright, Shane Jones and Antonio Agee were ranked in their respective weight class.
After finishing the 2017-18 wrestling season with a 5-2 dual record in the MAC, ODU returns eight wrestlers, including four NCAA Qualifiers in Michael McGee, Sa’Derian Perry, Larry Early and Seldon Wright. Before the EMU program was cut, Perry competed for the Eagles and earned All-American status placing seventh at 141 pounds.
McGee (125) and Early (157) are both ranked at the top of their weight class after both racking up 29 wins each last season. In duals, McGee owned a 14-4 record, the best dual record on the squad, while Early owned a 13-4 mark in duals.
At 141 pounds, Perry is ranked behind Missouri’s Jaydin Eierman, who finished in fourth place at the 2018 NCAA Championship.
Kenan Carter checks in fourth at 149 pounds after collecting 23 wins last season and finishing in fifth at the MAC Championship. Ranked third at 174 pounds, Shane Jones comes off a 22-win season and a fifth place finish at the MAC Championships at 165 pounds. Jones won the starting spot at 165 pounds towards the end of the 2018 season and finished strong with wins in six of his last 10 bouts. Closing out the ranked individuals in a tie for fourth is Antonio Agee at 184 pounds. Agee closed his sophomore campaign with a 12-6 dual record and 19 wins overall.
Joining the MAC for tis season is SIUE, who the Monarchs will face at home on January 25 at 7 p.m.
ODU is set to host the 2019 MAC Championships at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
