Military Appreciation Events Set For Saturday
By ODU Athletics
NORFOLK, Va. - Saturday’s game against North Texas will mark ODU’s annual Military Appreciation game. ODU is proud of its strong ties to the military, with over 25% of its student body being military-affiliated.
Throughout the game on Saturday, ODU will celebrate its ties to the military with various presentations and demonstrations. ODU is honored to have partnered with Joint Base Langley-Eustis for Saturday’s events. The base will have over 150 staff and service members in attendance, including groups displaced from bases in Florida due to Hurricane Michael. Look for the following military-related items during the game:
Prior to the national anthem at approximately 3:15pm, a Marine detail from the Hampton Roads NROTC will perform a traditional flag-passing ceremony on the field to honor the 243rd birthday of the U.S. Marine Corp, which is November 10. “Old Glory” will be read while the ceremony is taking place.
Following the anthem, a trio of T-38 Talons from 71st Fighter Training Squadron, Langley Air Force Base will perform a flyover of S.B. Ballard Stadium, moving North to South. The flyover is presented by Window World.
During the coin toss, ODU will recognize the commanding officer of Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Colonel Sean K. Tyler.
Throughout the game, ODU will show “hero features” on the video board of local military service members.
The ODU Bookstore will be carrying a new line of ODU-licensed, Operation Hat Trick apparel and hats at Saturday’s game. Proceeds from the sale of Operation Hat Trick merchandise support the recovery of wounded service members and veterans.
