Women's Golf Reveals 2019-20 Schedule
By ODU Athletics
NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women’s golf head coach Mallory Hetzel announced the Monarchs 2019-20 schedule on Friday afternoon. ODU is coming off another record-breaking season, where they earned their third consecutive trip to the NCAA Regionals, broke school scoring records and closed out the season ranked No. 49 in the country.
The fall schedule consists of three tournaments, while the spring is compiled of six events prior to postseason play.
“We are starting our fall slate a little later than usual and going light, explained Hetzel. “We have a totally new group this year and we want to give ourselves a full month to get prepared for three great events.”
ODU will open the fall on Sept. 27 at the Lady Paladin Invitational hosted by Furman.
The Monarchs will host the second annual Princess Anne Invitational on October 4-6 in Virginia Beach. Last season, the tournament was ranked in the top-50 best events in women’s golf according to Golfweek. The 2019 field will include Old Dominion, UCF, Campbell, East Carolina, USF, Sacramento State, College of Charleston, Chattanooga, Middle Tennessee, UTSA, Virginia Tech, Coastal Carolina, LSU, Marshall and Minnesota.
“The Princess Anne Invitational has quickly grown into an elite national event. We have teams from all over the country coming to compete in Virginia Beach. It’s our only home game of the year and it gives our supporters an entire weekend to come see us play!”
ODU will close out the fall with a trip to the College of Charleston to compete in the Palmetto Intercollegiate.
The Monarchs will open the spring in Florida with a trip to the UCF Challenge, where ODU took fourth and defeated seven top-50 opponents last season at the tournament.
"Our spring schedule is as good as it gets. We play great venues and tough competition at each event. This schedule was a dream for ODU a few years ago and now it’s a reality."
On February 17-18, ODU will be traveling to the Moon Golf Invitational hosted by Louisville. In the first of three March events, ODU will make a stop at C-USA foe UTSA for the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational held at San Antonio Country Club.
Ranked the 15th best event in women's golf in 2019, the Monarchs travel to South Carolina to compete in the Clemson Invitational on March 27-29. The Monarchs close out the regular season by heading to another top-50 event in the Bryan National Collegiate on April 5-7.
The Conference USA Championship returns to the Verandah Club on April 20-22, where UTSA defends the 2019 title.
"Our players love the opportunity to compete against the best teams from around the country. It’s a challenging and packed schedule that we know will help us play our best golf in the post season."
